Payment Resources and Extension of Binder Deadline
Applicants with original payment deadlines of Jan. 1 through Jan. 30 will now have until noon on Jan. 31 to make their initial or binder payment and keep their Jan. 1 effective date. Members renewing into 2023 plans get the same extension. Both applicants and members will soon receive communications about the new deadline.
Why we’re extending the payment deadline: Last week we experienced intermittent issues with the online payment system some applicants and members use to make payments. These issues have been resolved. We apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused you and your clients.
We have resources to help you answer payment questions and better support your clients.
- Initial Payments: We require the first-month premium payment to effectuate new policies and active renewals. Here’s what you need to know,
including deadlines.
- Grace Period Rules: There are different rules and processes if your clients receive Advance Premium Tax Credits versus those who don’t. Get the latest rules.

- Identifying Clients Missing Initial Payments or in Grace Periods. You may have clients that have not yet effectuated coverage because they aren’t able to make their binder payment. Others may be in grace periods due to late payments. Reporting tools within the Retail Producer Portal allow you to find these clients and help with additional outreach. Go here
for reporting instructions.
- Online Payment Experience guide. Throughout 2022, we upgraded our online systems for applicants and members, giving them more self-service control over initial and ongoing monthly payments. Get the details here.
